ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University men's soccer team closed out week one of the 2022 season on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to Union at home.
After a scoreless first half, all of the scoring game in the span of 10 minutes.
Union (2-0) struck first in the 70th minute to take the first lead. Ouachita (0-1-1) answered in the 74th minute after a long crossing pass from
Brandon Avila was knocked into the net by
CJ Washington for the equalizing goal. It was the first career goal for the freshman from Rowlett, Texas, and the third career assist for Avila.
Union scored the game-winner in the 79th minute.
The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 27-6, including a 9-3 margin in shots on goal.
Armani Atilano went the distance for the Tigers in goal and totaled seven saves.
The Tigers stay at home for their next two contests, taking on Delta State on Friday, September 2 at 4 p.m. and Mississippi College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
