ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball put the finishing touches on an undefeated week with a 57-53 win on Saturday afternoon at home over Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The Tigers (6-6, 3-5 GAC) needed the defense to step up on day where the shots just were not falling from the perimeter. Ouachita tied a season-best in opponent field goals made, giving up just 16 to the Rangers (7-5, 3-5 GAC), who also struggled in shooting with a 36.4 field goal percentage.
The 53 points allowed was the best performance from the Ouachita defense this season in GAC games, and the second-best performance overall.
Each team held the lead for nearly 45 percent of the game. There were 12 lead changes and six tie scores. Ouachita led by as much as five in the final minute of the game. NWOSU held a seven-point lead late in the first period.
Makayla Miller led the Tigers with production in nearly every stat category. She led the team in points (15), rebounds (5), steals (7), and assists (5). She also helped the Tigers down the stretch at the foul line, ending the game 9-for-14 at the line.
Madeleine Tipton and
Laney Mears also reached double-digits in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Ouachita caps its current three-game homestand next Thursday, January 19 against Harding. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
