ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University wrestling team went 1-2 over the weekend in Great Lakes Valley Conference duals against Indianapolis, William Jewell, and McKendree.
The Tigers (5-4, 2-2 GLVC) started with a split on Sunday at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, dropping their first match against 12th-ranked UIndy by a score of 35-9 before taking down the host Cardinals 25-21 later in the day. On Monday, the Tigers traveled across the Mississippi River to take on the McKendree Bearcats, tied with UIndy at the No. 12 national ranking. The Bearcats came away with the win at 32-15.
Johnny Green,
Cole Eason,
James Anderson, and
Jaylon Otero led the Tigers, all posting two wins in the three matches combined.
Green went 2-0 in the 285 division with a win by decision (5-3) in his matchup against UIndy and then a win by fall at the 1:05 against his McKendree opponent.
Eason went 2-1 at 174/184 with a close loss (9-6) against his UIndy counterpart, followed by a win by fall (2:14) against his WJC opponent and a win by fall (4:44) against his McKendree opponent.
Anderson went 2-1 at 133 with two straight wins to start, including a win by fall in 1:16 against his UIndy opponent and win by decision (5-2) against WJC. He gave McKendree's Christian Mejia a tough bout on Monday, but ultimately fell by a 3-1 decision.
Otero went 1-2 at 157, dropping a close 5-2 bout against UIndy, before coming back to earn a major (9-1) against WJC and a win by decision (5-1) against McKendree.
Ouachita makes a return trip this Sunday, January 22 to take on Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma. The Tigers beat the Vikings 28-16 on December 7 at home in Arkadelphia.
