ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team dropped a Great American Conference road game to Arkansas Tech on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 64-62.
After building a double-digit lead in the third period, Ouachita (6-8, 3-7 GAC) saw that lead dwindle in the fourth period. The Golden Suns (9-5, 7-3 GAC) held the Tigers two just two points in the final 5:39 of the game, both coming on free throws. During that final stretch, Ouachita was 0-for-2 from the field, 2-for-8 on free throws, and committed five of its 17 total turnovers.
Tech took a six-point lead into the locker room at halftime, but Ouachita came out on fire in third, starting the frame on a 12-0 run to hold its own six-point lead at the 6:40 mark. The Tigers held their largest lead of 10 on two different occasions in the final five minutes of the third period.
Makayla Miller led the Tigers with 15 points, while also adding six rebounds.
Laney Mears tallied 12 points.
Heidi Robinson scored 10 and turned in a team-high eight rebounds.
Ouachita is back in action on Monday, January 23, when it hosts cross-street rival Henderson State for the first of two matchups of the regular season. Monday's tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
