ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team is set to open the 2023-24 season Friday night against the Mules of the University of Central Missouri in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The Tigers will be playing in Fort Smith as part of the 2023 GAC/MIAA Conference Challenge that is made up of Ouachita and Harding from the Great American Conference and Central Missouri and Lincoln University from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The Tigers will play Central Missouri on Friday, November 10 at 7 p.m. and take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln on Saturday, November 11 at 6 p.m. with both games taking place in Fort Smith.
Ouachita ended last season in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament after defeated top-seeded and nationally ranked Southern Nazarene in the opening round.
This year, the Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the GAC preseason coaches' poll. It will be a lot of new faces for this season as the Tigers welcome a total of seven newcomers to go with eight returners.
Highlighting the returners from last year's GAC Tournament semifinal squad are
Tylar Haynes who started all but one game for Ouachita while averaging almost 13 points per game, and
Reggie Martin who averaged eight points per game while playing in all 28 of Ouachita's contests.
The seven new Tigers include four Division I transfers, one NAIA transfer, one Junior College transfer and one true freshman. The newcomers will be looking to make an immediate impact on the team.
