ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's basketball team completed the 2023 portion of its schedule on Saturday with a 91-85 exhibition victory over Williams Baptist at home.
Laney Mears turned in her best performance of the season with 28 points, highlighted by seven made three-pointers. Her 28 points is a career-high, however the stats do not officially count because the game was an exhibition.
Heidi Robinson added 14 points and six rebounds.
Madeleine Tipton scored 11 points.
Micah Russell ended the game with 10 points.
Audri Winfrey led the Tigers in rebounds with eight.
As a team, Ouachita shot 48 percent from the field (34-for-71), 43 percent on three-pointers (12-for-28), and 73 percent at the foul line (11-for-15). The Tigers commanded the glass with a 47-29 edge in rebounding, including a 21-11 lead in offensive boards that led to a 20-5 lead for Ouachita in second-chance points.
WBU, one of the top scoring teams at the NAIA level, finished the game at 46 percent from the field (31-for-67), led by Carmen Taylor's nine made three-pointers and a game-high 36 points.
The Tigers open 2024 at home with Great American Conference games against Oklahoma Baptist (Jan. 4) and Southern Nazarene (Jan. 6).
