CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – With a 2-0 performance on Friday, Ouachita Baptist University senior
Johnny Green has earned a spot in the semifinals of the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.
The final rounds of the national championship event will be held on Saturday in Cedar Rapids. With his wins on Friday, Green has earned All-America status for the 2023 season, as he will finish no lower than sixth in the nation this season. The Allen, Texas native is Ouachita's first All-America honoree since 2018.
Green's opening round victory came by fall at the 4:07 mark against Newberry's Devon Rice. That win set up a quarterfinals matchup in Friday's evening session against fifth-ranked Francesco Borsellino from West Liberty University, who earned a 10-1 major decision win over Chadron State's Mason Watt in the opening round.
Green and Borsellino went scoreless in the first period before Green took a 1-0 lead with an escape at the 1:49 mark of the second. Borsellino had an escape of his own in the third period to force overtime, where Green scored a spin-around takedown with 32 seconds remaining to earn the 3-1 sudden victory.
The semifinals matchup is set between Green and Central Oklahoma's Shawn Streck, the top-ranked wrestler in the bracket and undefeated on the season at 26-0 following a pair of wins by decision in the first two rounds on Friday. Saturday's meeting will be the third of the season for Green and Streck. Streck won both of the previous meetings with a two-point decision at the Midwest Classic in December and a one-point decision in the finals of the NCAA Super Regional Championships held in Edmond, Oklahoma on February 26.
Saturday's semifinal round for all weights will begin at 10 a.m. Live coverage links can be found at
