ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist University's
Carter McElhany has been selected as the Great American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Tigers' 52-24 victory over Southern Arkansas this past Saturday at home.
The freshman from Greenbrier has already made waves for the Tiger program just three games into the 2023 season. Against SAU, he averaged 32 yards per kickoff return, including a 53-yard return to set up the Tigers in SAU territory on Ouachita's first offensive drive of the game.
McElhany also hauled in a 73-yard touchdown pass from quarterback
Riley Harms in the win, which was Ouachita's longest passing play of the year and the longest since a 75-yard touchdown pass from
Eli Livingston to
Justin Dean in week two of the 2022 season.
Overall this season, McElhany has six kickoff returns for 173 yards for an average of just under 29 yards per return. He is the team's second-leading receiver with seven catches for 127 yards.
McElhany and the 3-0 Tigers are back in action this Saturday, September 23 on the road against Arkansas-Monticello.
