ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 road win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday to clinch the 2024 Great American Conference regular season championship and hosting privileges for this weekend's conference tournament.
The four-team GAC tournament will be played this Friday and Sunday, November 15 and 17 at Kluck Field on the Ouachita campus. No. 1 seed Ouachita will take on No. 4 seed Southern Nazarene on Friday at 11 a.m. No. 2 seed Harding will face No. 3 seed Oklahoma Baptist at 2 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the finals.
Monday's game was originally scheduled for November 2, but had to be moved due to weather. After a scoreless first half, Ouachita exploded for three goals in the final 45 minutes.
The scoring started shortly into the second half in the 49th minute when a deep pass from
Sophia Valencia bounced off a NWOSU defender in front of the net to find
Teagan Jaussi for the goal.
Jaussi struck again in the 51st minute on a perfectly-timed cross from teammate
Reese Brown. It was Brown's turn in the 59th minute, keeping a short shot on the end line just inbounds to bounce off the far post and into the back of the net.
Ouachita led 11-8 in total shots and 7-6 in shots on frame.
Taylor Hapgood played the full 90 minutes in goal and collected six saves in her first career shutout.
The regular season championship is Ouachita's first in the GAC era. However, the Tigers have won three GAC tournament titles, including last year in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
