INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history as the No. 8 seed in the St. Cloud, Minnesota Regional.
The Tigers will take on the host of the regional and the No. 1 seed in the bracket, St. Could State, next Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. in St. Cloud.
Ouachita earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning the 2024 Great American Conference Championship Tournament this past weekend at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
In the GAC tournament, the Tigers opened with a five-set victory over defending champion and No. 4 seed Oklahoma Baptist in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, the Tigers took down the No. 1 seed and regular season champions Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 to make the first GAC finals appearance in school history. In the championship match, Ouachita swept No. 2 seed Harding to earn the program's first GAC tournament championship.
This is the first ever NCAA tournament appearance for Ouachita volleyball. The Tigers have compiled a 22-9 record so far this season, the best since going 23-9 in 2018 and will be riding a seven-game winning streak into the first round.
St. Cloud State is coming off Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season and tournament championships, making its way through the NSIC tournament with wins over Sioux Falls, No. 18 Northern State, and No. 8 Concordia St. Paul. The Huskies enter the tournament 27-2 overall and ranked No. 2 in the nation by the AVCA.
