ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita men's basketball team fell to second-place Arkansas Tech by the score of 72-56 Saturday afternoon at Bill Vining Arena.
Ouachita (8-15, 6-12 GAC) got off to a good start, playing even with Arkansas Tech (18-6, 14-4 GAC) out of the gate. The Tigers and Wonder Boys went back and forth trading single possession leads over the first 12 minutes of the first half. The lead changed a total of eight times within that 12-minute span. Ouachita tied the game for the last time with 2:02 left in the half with the score 23-23. ATU went on a 7-0 run over the final two minutes and Ouachita went into the break trailing 30-23.
The second-place Wonder Boys took control in the second half and pushed their lead to double digits by the 15-minute mark. The Tigers cut the deficit back to single digits multiple times in the second half, but Tech had an answer each time. ATU stayed in the driver's seat and the Tigers fell by the final score of 72-56.
Terran Williams was the Tigers' leading scorer with 14 points while going 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Emorie Knox and
Reggie Martin tied for the second leading scorer with 10 points each. Knox led the team in assists with three and
Tylar Haynes led in rebounds with seven.
The Tigers will look to get back on track as they make their final regular season trip to Oklahoma to take on the first place Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Durant, Oklahoma.
