BATESVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita men's soccer team went on the road for the first time of the 2024 season on Wednesday resulting in a 1-1 draw with Lyon College.
After a scoreless first half, the Scots (1-1-2) found the net first on a series of shots that culminated with a goal in the 70th minute.
The Tigers (0-2-1) responded two minutes later to even the score.
Alexis Murillo's corner kick from the left side went undefended and into the back corner of the net.
It was Murillo's first collegiate goal and Ouachita's first goal of the 2024 season.
The Scots had the game's best go-ahead scoring chance from there with a shot that hit the top crossbar in the final five minutes. However, goalkeeper
Dillon Staal allowed just the one Lyon goal and had two saves in his relief appearance between the posts.
Isaac Murie started in goal and totaled 65 scoreless minutes with one save.
Lyon ended with a 14-5 edge in total shots. However, the shots on goal category was much closer with the Scots leading 4-3. The Tigers were whistled for nine more fouls than the Scots resulting in a lop-sided margin in set pieces.
The Tigers are back in action this Sunday, September 15 on the road against Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.
