BETHANY, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball team wrapped up its second road trip of the season to the state of Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon with a 64-45 loss to Southern Nazarene.
After a back-and-forth start that left Ouachita with a 5-4 lead at the six-minute mark of the first period, SNU responded with a 12–0 run to go up by 11 five minutes later.
SNU took a nine-point lead into the second period and then outscored Ouachita by a point in the second frame to hold a 10-point lead of 30-20 at the break.
Ouachita came out of the locker room on a tear, cutting the deficit down to six points in the first two minutes of the third period. However, SNU answered with a 13-0 scoring run in the next four minutes to get up by 19. SNU outscored Ouachita 19-14 in the fourth period and led by as much as 25 in the final frame.
The Tigers finished at 32 percent shooting from the field in the game (15-for-47), which is a season-low.
Laney Mears and
Madeleine Tipton tied for the team-high in scoring with seven points each. Mears added a team-high eight rebounds.
Up next is the first of two Great American Conference rivalry nights of the season with the Tigers heading across the street next Thursday, January 23 to take on Henderson State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
