ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's basketball team dropped a Great American Conference home game to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday night by a final score of 60-47.
Both teams shared the lead equally in the first period with Southeastern getting up by as much as five early and the Tigers going up by five in the final minute of the opening frame. The Savage Storm led by two at the end of the first.
Ouachita struggled in the second period at 23 percent shooting, while Southeastern hovered around 45 percent. The Storm used a late run to take a seven-point lead of 29-22 into the locker room at halftime.
The Tigers clawed back in with an offensive burst early in the third period to force a tied score on two different occasions in the first five minutes. Southeastern rallied back to lead by as much as six during the period.
Southeastern used a 9-0 run early in the fourth period to build a double-digit lead, and the Storm maintained at least a 10-point lead the rest of the way.
Ouachita finished at 36 percent shooting overall (20-for-56), 18 percent on threes (2-for-11), and 50 percent on foul shots (5-for-10). Southeastern shot 42 percent overall (23-for-55), 21 percent on threes (6-for-28), and 80 percent on foul shots (8-for-10).
Madeleine Tipton led the Tigers with 16 points. Abbey Harrison added nine points and five rebounds. Brooke Smith led the team in rebounds with nine.
The Tigers are back in action this Saturday, February 1 at home against East Central. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at Vining Arena.
