ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Senior Day at Kluck Field featured a pregame and postgame celebration Saturday as the Ouachita men's soccer team defeated Dallas Christian by a final score of 2–1.
After a foul gifted Ouachita a free kick near midfield, Xavier O'Dwyer lofted a ball deep inside Crusader territory, which allowed Nael Shalabi to send a header into the box. Shalabi's pass deflected off the head of a Dallas Christian defender and junior forward Cody Tice was there to recover the loose ball and drill his first goal of the season past the Crusaders goalkeeper into the low right corner of the net in the seventh minute to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.
With under 10 minutes left in the first half, Dallas Christian (0–2–4) leveled the score as Aldo Gomez scored a goal on an assist by Luis Delgado.
The Tigers pounced early in the second half as three freshmen led the fast break to score the eventual winner. Andrew Castellanos found a wide open Jack Langford racing past midfield, then Langford dribbled to the front of the box and led junior Luke Grigsby on the left side to score his first goal of the season in the 49th minute.
The Tigers controlled the pace and outshot the Crusaders 19–7. Senior goalkeeper Dillon Staal faced two shots on goal and needed just one save to earn the win. The victory gave Ouachita (3-8-3) a winning sendoff for its seniors to earn the third win of the season.
Ouachita hosts GAC standings leader Fort Hays State on Thursday, Oct. 30, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. at Kluck Field.
