TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma – The Ouachita men's soccer team picked up a gritty 2-1 conference victory on the road against Northeastern State on Wednesday night.
The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board when
Andrew Castellanos passed to an open Philip Bolk who found the low, right corner of the net in the 8th minute, giving OBU the early 1-0 lead.
Ouachita took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Twenty minutes into the second half, the scoring duo from the first half struck again, but this time it was Castellanos who put one past the NSU goalkeeper to the lower left part of the net after a pass from Bolk. The Tigers held a commanding 2-0 lead at the 65:33 mark.
A successful penalty kick by Northeastern State in the 80th minute spoiled the shutout for Ouachita, but they maintained the 2-1 edge and held that edge for the last 10 minutes of the contest, picking up the road conference victory and improving to 5-3-1 on the season and 2-2 in GAC play.
Castellanos led the Tigers offensively with a goal and an assist on five shots, two on target. Bolk added a goal and an assist, while
Cody Tice chipped in two shots, one on goal.
Isaac Murie faced nine shots on goal and recorded eight saves in goal.
The Tigers return home on Saturday, October 3, as they face Rogers State at 2:30 p.m.
