ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita volleyball team secured its fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night in a convincing straight-set sweep over East Central at home.
Final set scores were 25-14, 25-12, and 25-18 in favor of the purple Tigers, who wore pink jerseys during the match in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. ECU wore its white jerseys with pink numbers and letter in support of the cause.
Ouachita improved to 10-10 overall and 6-2 in Great American Conference matches to stay on pace for second place in the league standings. ECU drops to 8-12 overall and 3-5 in the GAC.
Ouachita outhit ECU .367 to .103 in the match. The purple Tigers racked up 45 kills on 98 swings with only nine errors.
Senior
Kailey Thedford led Ouachita with a double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs. She committed only three errors on 30 swings for a .400 hitting percentage. It was her second double-double of the season.
Sophie Henry and
Kylie Craven each had eight kills in the win.
Mack Bidwell aided the offensive attack with 34 assists.
Kylie Kisgen, who was honored prior to the match for surpassing 1,500 career digs, led the Tigers with 12 against ECU.
Ann Marie Tice also reached double digits in digs with 11.
Ouachita is back in action on Friday night at home against Southeastern Oklahoma State. First serve is set for 5 p.m. Ouachita will recognize all volleyball alumni on Friday night with a special recognition for the 2016 GAC championship squad.
