MONTICELLO, Arkansas – The Ouachita women's basketball team has earned a spot in the 2026 Great American Conference Championship Tournament following its 56-51 road victory over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday in the regular season finale.
The Tigers will either be the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the GAC tournament, which begins next Thursday, March 5 in Fort Smith.
Ouachita (14-12, 11-11 GAC) led Saturday's game over UAM (6-22, 1-21 GAC) for more than 36 minutes. The Blossoms held the Tigers to just eight points in the second period, which allowed UAM to take a two-point lead midway through the frame.
The Tigers responded with a strong third period, which featured their largest lead of 13 points on a layup from
Samantha Watson with 1:29 remaining in the frame.
UAM outscored the Tigers by five in the fourth period and forced a tie score at 49-49 with 3:41 remaining. Ouachita closed the game outscoring UAM 7-2 to clinch the win.
Watson led all scorers with a career-high 22 points and also totaled a game-high eight rebounds.
Heidi Robinson added 13 points and five rebounds.
Saturday's win assures a winning overall record for the Tigers this year, which marks the 38th winning season in program history.
