TOPEKA, Kansas – The Ouachita men's tennis team wrapped up the program's 22nd appearance in the NCAA tournament on Tuesday with a 4-0 loss to 11th-ranked Washburn.
The loss gives the Tigers a final 16-9 record for the season, while Washburn improves to 19-5 and advances to the NCAA Round of 16.
The doubles action between the Tigers and Ichabods on Tuesday featured a pair of close battles on courts one and three. Ouachita's 22nd-ranked tandem of
Yarin Aebi and
Ramon Strassmann took down Washburn's ninth-ranked duo of Benjamin Fock and Zino Nahirniak by a 6-4 score on court one.
The Ichabods evened the match with a win on court three to set up the decider on court two in another battle of ranked tandems. Washburn's 28th-ranked pair of Tommy Cecchetti and Pavlos Parson ended up with a hard-fought 7-5 win over Ouachita's 29th-ranked twosome of
Moritz Buss and
Aaron Osmond.
With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, the Ichabods earned two-set wins on courts three, four, and six to seal the overall match victory.
