ARKADELPHIA – Despite an early goal in the opening minutes of play, the Ouachita Baptist University women's soccer team dropped a close 2-1 contest in the season-opener on Thursday afternoon at Kluck Field.
Just six minutes into the contest, an NSU foul inside the box gave Ouachita an early opportunity with a penalty kick taken by
McKenna Wright, who found the bottom right part of the net, giving OBU the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers held the advantage until the 17th minute when the Riverhawks scored the equalizer.
The first half ended in a 1‑1 deadlock. Northeastern State held a slim lead in shots, tallying nine attempts with five on target, while Ouachita managed six shots, two on goal.
The second half began with both sides seeking the decisive edge, but it was Northeastern State that scored the game-winner with five minutes left in the game to take the 2-1 edge and ultimately the victory.
The Riverhawks outshot the Tigers 23-18 and owned a slight advantage in shots on-goal, 8-7.
Ouachita is back in action on Sunday, August 30 against Midwestern State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
