LEBANON, Illinois – The Ouachita volleyball team finished its season-opening weekend on a high note with a three-set sweep over McKendree on Saturday night.
The Tigers lost to Maryville 3-1 on Saturday morning in the team's first match of the second day of the McKendree Invitational.
Set scores in the sweep over the host McKendree were 25-12, 25-13, and 25-11. The Tigers turned in their best performance of the weekend in most categories with 38 kills and just seven errors on 91 swings for a .341 hitting percentage.
The Tigers had multiple long scoring streaks against the Bearcats, including an eight-point run in the first set and a stretch of 12 points in the last 13 rallies of the second set.
Sophie Henry continued her productive weekend with a match-high 13 kills against McKendree with only one error on 18 swings for a .667 percentage.
Ruby Farris and
Leah Gardner each added seven kills.
Mack Bidwell had 31 assists in the win.
Kylie Kisgen and
Ann Marie Tice paced the back row with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
In Saturday morning's loss to Maryville, set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 16-25, and 17-25.
Kyleigh Casey and Henry reached double-digits for the Tigers in kills with 14 and 10, respectively. Gardner added eight. Bidwell contributed to the offensive attack with 34 assists, while also adding 11 digs for her second double-double of the weekend. Four Tigers reached double-digits in digs, led by
Delaney Gonzalez with 14.
Ouachita is at home for its next five matches, including co-hosting the annual Reddie-Tiger Challenge next weekend.
