RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Ouachita Baptist University linebacker Kahlil Smith has been selected as the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The selection follows Smith's performance in Ouachita's 23-17 road victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State this past Saturday night in Durant.

The redshirt sophomore from Frisco, Texas had numerous big plays in the game helping the Tigers secure their first win of the season. Smith finished with six tackles and was in on two sacks for a combined loss of 17 yards.

Smith also forced two takeaways for the Tiger defense, including a forced fumble on a sack late in the second quarter and later a victory-securing interception on Southeastern's final offensive drive that kept the Savage Storm from potentially tying the game or taking the lead in the final seconds. It was his first career interception.

Smith and the Tigers are back in action this Saturday, September 19 on the road against Arkansas Tech. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Russellville.
