David Sharp has served as director of athletics at Ouachita Baptist University since 1999.
Sharp got his start in collegiate athletics as a student-athlete, lettering for the Ouachita football team from 1975-79 as an offensive lineman and place kicker. After being redshirted in 1975, he went on to score 100 points with 70 PAT and 10 field goals over the course of his career.
He joined the the Tiger football staff immediately following his playing career, serving as a graduate assistant, assistant coach, and later defensive coordinator, before transitioning to administration in 1999.
Sharp has served on numerous NCAA committees during his career, including the NCAA Division II Football Committee from 2002-2006, the D2 Men’s Golf Committee in 2006-2010, the D2 Championships Committee in 2010-2014, and the NCAA Rules Committee from 2014-2019.
He and his wife, Carrie, are both Ouachita graduates. David earned a bachelor of science in education in 1980 and a master of science in education in 1982. Carrie is a 1985 Ouachita graduate, and currently serves the university as assistant professor of education. They have two adult children, Ashlee and Jordan, both Ouachita graduates.
