Kevin Wright Headshot 2024

Kevin Wright

Kevin Wright joined the Ouachita staff in February of 2012 as the head men’s and women’s soccer coach. He transitioned to just the women’s head coach starting in the 2015 season.

In more than a decade at the helm of the Ouachita women’s program, Wright has led the Tigers to 10 top three finishes in the Great American Conference, four GAC tournament championships, and the 2024 GAC regular season title. He was named the GAC Coach of the Year in the spring 2021 season and the fall 2023 season. Wright has led the Tigers to the program's second and third NCAA tournament appearances with back-to-back trips in 2023 in 2024.

Combining his three years as Ouachita’s men’s coach and 13 years as the women’s coach, Wright has recruited and coached 97 All-GAC honorees, 25 all-region honorees, and two All-America selections in Hayley Hatcher (2014, 2015) and Jaymee Dotson (2022). Hatcher was the first women's soccer player in Great American Conference history to earn national accodaldes. Dotson was also an Academic All-America honoree during her career, and became the first student-athlete in the history of the GAC to earn first team all-conference honors in five seasons.

Before Ouachita, Wright was the head men’s soccer coach at Howard Payne University from 2008-12, where he led the Yellow Jackets to two consecutive American Southwest Conference playoff appearances. He previously served as a men’s and women’s assistant coach at HPU, and was head men’s soccer coach and a physical education teacher at Greenville High School in Texas. At Greenville, Wright led his team to three district championships, was named district coach of the year three times, and was selected to coach the Texas High School All-Star Game.

Wright is a 2001 graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science. As a soccer player at UMHB, he was the co-captain his senior year.

Wright and his wife, Melinda, have two children, Tavin and McKenna. Both currently play for the Tigers.
