Ouachita Wrestling on the brink against top teams in Lone Star Duals

ARLINGTON, Texas- If progress is any indication, Ouachita Baptist Wrestling is on the brink from not only competing with national powers, but defeating some of the top teams in the country, as the Tigers showed in the 2011 Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas on Saturday.

Ouachita went 1-2-1 in the Duals, led by a 4-0 performance from junior Aaron Butler on the afternoon. Freshman Tyler Hutchison was also very impressive, finishing with a 3-1 record overall.

The Tigers tied Marion Military Institute in the open match, 25-25, followed by a 38-12 loss to Division I opponent American University. Ouachita easily defeated UT-Arlington, 47-7, then ended with a 26-22 loss to No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney.

Hutchison began the Marion Military match quickly, with a pin 40 seconds into the match, defeating Deanthony Smith. Freshman Jake Simpson gave Ouachita another victory via pinfall at the 165-pound class, defeating Marvin Lawrence at 6:44. Butler followed with a 7-2 win over Jayce Crowder at 174, while freshman CJ Hays took down Khalid McGee, 13-4. Junior Gabe Musser (197) completed the victory total for the Tigers with a win by fall at 3:45 over Marion's Mark Howard.

For the match against Division I opponent American University, Butler won the 174-pound class due to injury default, while freshman Taylor Poe won the heavyweight class via forfeit.

Against UT-Arlington, seven forfeits highlighted the match, while Butler dominated in the 174-pound class with a 16-1 victory over Alejandro Juarez.

In the Nebraska-Kearney match, Hutchison started things off with a 10-6 victory over Nebraska Kearney's Jordan White in the 125-pound weight class. Freshman John Grove then followed with a victory via forfeit (133-pd) and freshman Bobby Williams took home a victory in the 157-pound class with a win by fall at 4:16 over Bruce Zurek. Butler narrowly edge out Kearney's Drew Comito, 9-7, while junior teammate Gabe Musser shutout Mike Swanson, 9-0.
