Ouachita Volleyball Downs SWOSU, East Central in Weekend Games

ARKADELPHIA, AR- The Ouachita Lady Tigers (16-12, 7-7 GAC) hosted two games this weekend, starting with a match-up against Southwestern Oklahoma State (8-14, 4-9 GAC) on Friday and a game against East Central University (11-16, 7-8 GAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers dominated both games, winning them both in four sets and continuing to build late season momentum going into the final week of regular season play.

On Friday night, the Lady Tigers were led by three names that are becoming all too common. Junior Megan Askew led the Lady Tigers in kills, collecting 12 in the game, while also adding three blocks in the game. Senior Lexie Hegi continued to be the leader in assists for Ouachita, collecting 23 in the match. Junior Allison Frizzell also continued her domination, collecting 18 digs in the match. The Lady Tigers captured the first set before losing the second. They then took over the match, winning the third and fourth sets very handily.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers were back to the court, hosting East Central University in another Great American Conference contest. Askew and junior Faith Avalos both finished with double digit kills, collecting 12 and 11 respectively. Askew also finished with seven blocks while Avalos finished with four of her own. Hegi finished with 37 assists in the match, while Frizzell had another spectacular game with 25+ digs. The Lady Tigers looked like they were headed for a three set sweep of East Central before a late rally in the third set ended in a loss for Ouachita. They rebounded in the fourth set, absolutely controlling the set and taking it by a score of 25-17 to cap off a week in which they went 3-0.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Magnolia, Arkansas for a battle with the Lady Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. They will return home for their final regular season contest on Thursday for a match against the Cotton Blossoms of University of Arkansas- Monticello.
