ARKADELPHIA, AR- After falling to 1-4 against Texas A&M-International on Sunday, the Ouachita (2-4) men's soccer team traveled to Cleveland, Mississippi, for a match-up against the struggling Delta State Statesmen (0-5) on Wednesday.
The Tigers came out hot in the first half, scoring their first goal of the half at the 16:18 mark of the game, when sophomore Andrew Davis scored his first goal of the season on an assist from junior JT Goodrum. The Tigers would continue their attack by scoring only six minutes later. At the 22:39 point of the game, Goodrum would score a goal of his own, notching an assist for junior Rizvan Ceka, and giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead early in the first half, but the Tiger attack didn't stop there. At the 29:21 mark of the game, Ouachita would score a third goal when junior Sergiu Postolache was able to squeeze a shot past Delta State goalkeeper Flavio Romero. That goal was assisted by junior Clayton Case and Ceka, who collected his second assist of the game. The 3-0 score would stand at the end of the half.
Coming out of halftime, Delta State was able to score their first goal of the night, when Tom Santos scored at the 54:04 mark with an assist from Taylor Whyte. It took a while for the Tigers to do it, but they would then counter that goal with another of their own. At the 79:35 mark of the match, junior Josh Galante would net a goal of his own, hailing from an assist by Case, marking his second assist of the game. That goal would be the last one scored in the match-up, leading to a final score of 4-1, with the Tigers collecting their second victory of the season.
All of Ouachita's goals in the match were scored by different players. They took 22 shots in the match, 12 of which were on target. They did not receive any cards in the game and were only called for seven fouls. Ouachita sophomore David Henley was in the goal for the Tigers, collecting three saves throughout the game.
The Tigers return to action on September 23, when they host Central Baptist at 4 p.m.
