Football Closes Out Season With Tough Showing Against Henderson State

Box Score
ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The 86th installment of the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine game occurred on Saturday, although it didn't go quite the way that the Ouachita Tigers (6-4, 4-4 GAC) would have liked. Henderson State (10-0, 8-0 GAC) jumped out to a 35-7 first half lead, which they never relented, taking a 42-7 victory.

197 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter put the Tigers behind by a large deficit early, with Henderson holding a 21 point advantage at the end of one.

The Tigers didn't take long to get their first score as the second quarter began though, with Steven Kehner scoring the first, and last, Ouachita touchdown with 9:11 left in the first half.

The Reddies answered Kehner's score on the following drive though, regaining a 21 point lead.

Despite a Tiger interception with 3:27 left in the half, the Reddies scored again and held a 35-7 lead as the first half expired. Although they led in possession time by almost five minutes, the Tigers were only able to muster one score throughout the first 30 minutes of play.

The Tigers only gave up seven points in the third quarter, but were unable to score any points of their own, leaving them trailing 42-7 at the beginning of the fourth.

A pretty stagnant fourth quarter was played, with neither team putting together a successful scoring drive, giving the Reddies a 42-7 victory over Ouachita's Tigers.

A record 12,035 people attended Saturday's game, marking the highest number ever to witness a match-up between the two teams.

The loss caps off a 6-4 season for the Tigers, marking the fifth straight winning season for the Tiger football program. Ouachita is the only program in the state to boast such a streak.
