Poor Shooting Dooms Tigers in 59-56 Loss to Savage Storm

Box Score
ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Shooting percentages and rebounding proved to be the deciding factors in the Ouachita Tigers' (4-2, 1-1 GAC) conference loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-3, 1-1 GAC) on Saturday. The Tigers shot just 35 percent from the floor in the 59-56 loss, while Southeastern was able to net 45.8 percent of their shots, downing the Tigers at Bill Vining Arena.

Both halves were highly contested, but the Tigers held the advantage in the first half, with a 31-30 lead going into the locker room at halftime. In the first half, both teams were neck and neck, with 10 lead changes and three tie scores occuring.

As the teams came out in the second half though, Southeastern took the lead early and never relented, holding on to win the game. The Tigers got as close as two points in the half, but were never able to tie the game up.

Despite their poor shooting, the Tigers were never out of the game due to their ability to force turnovers. The Tigers forced the Savage Storm into 18 turnovers while only committing nine of their own. In fact, Ouachita's Micah Delph had a last second shot opportunity to tie the game, which fell short as the buzzer sounded.

Delph lead the team in scoring, picking up 15 points in the game, nine of which came in his offensive surge late in the game. Also notable were Nigel Ramsey and Colt Fason, who both recorded eight points. Delph, although smaller than the majority of the players on the floor, also led the team in rebounding, recording six.

Michael Morris continued his string of solid defensive performances, recording three blocks and two steals in the game.

Southeastern looked to Chris Roussell to lead the offensive charge, and he did so fittingly. Roussell finished with 29 points, which is made more impressive by his 10-of-14 shooting performance. Steven Kohli was the next highest scorer for the Savage Storm, picking up nine points.

Ouachita struggled on the boards, only recording 31 rebounds to Southeastern's 45. Another factor in the end might have been second chance points, with Southeastern recording 10 and Ouachita only posting four during the game.

Ouachita will travel to Southern Arkansas on Thursday and look to improve their conference standing following Saturday's loss. Tip-off in Magnolia is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
