Lady Tigers Use Great First Half to Fuel 81-74 Win Over Southeastern Oklahoma

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Saturday's conference game between the Ouachita Lady Tigers (4-1, 2-0 GAC) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (1-5, 0-2 GAC) ended in another victory for Ouachita, giving them a quick 2-0 start in Great American Conference play. The Lady Tigers used a combination of things capture the 81-74 victory, including an 80 percent mark from the free throw line.

Ouachita led by a score of 41-31 at halftime, as they jumped out to a lead early and looked like they were going to run away with the game. The Savage Storm kept themselves in the game with their free throw shooting though, making 12 of their 13 attempts from the line in the first half.

In the second half, Southeastern made a number of runs, even tying the game at one point. It wasn't enough to overcome the Lady Tigers and their offensive performances though.

Ouachita had five players finish with double-digit point totals in the game. They were led by Kendra Coyle, who finished with 17 points and four rebounds, while also adding three blocks. Breanna Harris finished with 16 points, while Monica Williams finished with 12. Williams and Ashley Johnson led the team on the boards, grabbing nine rebounds each and helping the Lady Tigers to hold a 46-39 advantage on the boards.

Bailey Welcha nd Ronay English did everything they could to get the Savage Storm back in the game, recording 20 and 16 points respectively.

The Lady Tigers finished the game shooting 37.7 percent from the floor, while holding Southeastern to 35.6 percent in the game. Ouachita also forced 14 turnovers in the contest, while committing 13 of their own. One of the most important aspects of the game though was second chance points, as Ouachita recorded 24, compared to Southeastern's nine.

Ouachita will put their four game win streak on the line when they take to the road on Thursday, as they travel to Magnolia, Arkansas for a match-up with the Lady Muleriders of Southern Arkansas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
