Women's Soccer Falls to Texas A&M-Commerce in First Action of Season

Box Score COMMERCE, Tex..- Entering the season with a number of new faces, including a new head coach, is never easy. The Lady Tigers and Head Coach Kevin Wright have endured just that as they prepared for the 2012 season. The Lady Tigers (0-1) traveled to Commerce, Texas for their first action of 2012 on Thursday, but were unable to down the Lady Lions (1-0) on the road. The Lady Lions captured a 2-0 victory, both of their goals coming in the first half.

Ouachita's Shelby Shepherd made her first start in a Lady Tiger uniform at goalkeeper, recording six saves in the game. Sarah Broyles took three shots in the contest, one of which was on goal, while Jessica Allen took two shots, also finishing with a single shot on goal. Morgan Pitchford, Carrie Lieblong and Taylor Gay all took a single shot attempt during the contest.

The Lady Lions scored the first goal of the game at the 11:41 mark of the first half, when Sydney Lawthers netted a shot off of the far post on an assist from A&M-Commerce's Brionna Minde. The Lady Lions stretched their lead to two at the 24:09 mark of the first half, when Eva Brutto connected on a shot from just inside the box, with Minde providing another assist.

The Lady Tigers took four corner kicks in the game, as compared to the Lady Lions' seven. Ouachita took eight shots in the game, four in each half, while Commerce had 15 of their own. The game was called evenly, as both teams were called for six fouls, while Ouachita's Leah Anderson was given a yellow card with just eight minutes remaining in the contest.

The Lady Tigers will look to record their first win under the direction of Wright when they return to the field on September 3 in Denton, Texas for a game against Texas Woman's University. That game is slated for a 2 p.m. start time.
