Lady Tigers Hang On for Conference Road Win Over Southeastern Oklahoma

Box Score
DURANT, Okla.- As hard as road wins are to come by in the Great American Conference, everyone is to be cherished. On Thursday night, the Ouachita Lady Tigers (15-3, 10-2 GAC) stole one from Southeastern Oklahoma (6-12, 4-8 GAC), as they held off a second half rally to capture a 70-67 win in Durant.

Ouachita jumped out a really quick start, capturing a lead which they never relented during the first half of play. The Lady Tigers led by as many as 14 points during the half before settling for a 40-28 lead at halftime.

The Lady Tigers held the Savage Storm at bay for much of the second half, before Southeastern went to work with about five minutes left in the game. The Savage Storm cut the lead to three with just 57 seconds left in the game and following a missed layup by the Lady Tigers it looked as if they might tie the game. Fortunately for the Lady Tigers, their defense held strong, as Southeastern's three point try on their next trip down bounced out and allowed Ouachita to hang on for a three point victory.

Ouachita was led by Monica Williams, who recorded 26 points and 12 rebounds in her return from an ankle injury. Nashia James posted 17 points and six rebounds in the game while helping to create shots for her teammates and picking up four assists.

Southeastern's Cheree Kiser came off of the bench and put up a sensational 19 point, eight rebound performance for her team. Bailey Welch and Haley Schaefer were strong contributors as well, with 17 and 14 points respectively.

Ouachita held an advantage in turnovers and rebounds, but Southeastern outshot the Lady Tigers. Ouachita finished the game shooting 37.1 percent, while the Savage Storm didn't fare much better, with a mark of 38.2 percent from the floor.

The Lady Tigers will continue their two game conference road swing on Saturday, when they face off against East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
