Lady Tigers Unable to Stop Mustangs

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lady Tigers came up short on Sunday, losing to the Midwestern State Mustangs 84-74.
 
In the first half, the teams went back and forth, trading leads five times. With nine minutes left to play in the half, the Mustangs grabbed a one-point lead and maintained the tight lead until halftime. At the end of the half, the Lady Tigers trailed 42-39.
 
The Lady Tigers distributed the ball well in the first half, in which five Lady Tigers scored at least five points. Katherine West, Erica Sharp and Elise Holman each had six to lead OBU. Ouachita was able to keep the first half so close by their 92.3% (12-13) free-throw shooting.
 
Defense also became a key factor for the Lady Tigers, as they forced 11 turnovers in just the first half.
 
Midwestern State led the entire second half, but the Lady Tigers were able to keep the game extremely close. The Mustangs never claimed a lead by more than 12 points. Although Ouachita was able to shoot 36.8% from the field and 82.4% from the line, Midwestern State's premier shooting from the field (58.33%) ended up being the difference in the contest. The second half came to a close with the Mustangs up 84-74.
 
Because of their aggressive defense, the Lady Tigers were able to score 19 points off of Midwestern State's turnovers.
 
Midwestern State earned a 20-point effort from Andrea Carter. Carter only missed one shot all game. She also grabbed 12 rebounds to earn a double-double.
 
Ouachita's West led her team in scoring with 13 points. West did her damage from behind the arc, shooting 3-5 from deep. Sharp, Katie Kapler and Nashia James also finished with double-digit scoring, adding 12, 11 and 11 points, respectively.
 
Holman led the Lady Tigers with five rebounds, and James and Sharp led the team with three steals each.
 
The Lady Tigers (0-5, 0-2) are at home again on Thursday, Dec. 5, as they take on Southern Arkansas University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
