SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- A road trip to Springfield, Missouri proved to be a tough one for the Ouachita Tiger tennis team on Friday evening, as they fell to the Panthers of Drury University by a final score of 7-2.
Ouachita's pair of
Helge Knuth and
Marvin Muller fell to Drury's Roman Gonda and Lukas Kriem by a score of 8-4 to kick off the action, but
Marko Boskovic and
Vitor Oliveira answered with an 8-6 win over the Panther's pair of Andy Blair and Sergio Manzanas.
Drury took the last double match of the day with a 9-7 win over Anghel Teo Valentin and Leon Farran, coming from Jorge Volckaert and Dmitiri Lebedyev.
Trailing 2-1, the Tigers needed a push in singles play to take the match, but they were unable to put together anything.
Blair defeated Boskovic by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to kick off singles action, giving Drury a 3-1 lead.
Helge Knuth took on Gonda in the next match, but again Ouachita fell short, as Gonda downed Knuth in a 6-3,6-3 match.
Next up was Ouachita's
Marvin Muller, who was unable to take a win despite a closely contested first set. He fell to Kriem in a 7-6, 6-3 decision.
Oliviera took on Drury's Manzanas, but again was unable to seal a win for the Tigers, as Manzanas took a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Tiger.
The only singles win of the day for Ouachita came in the fifth singles match, when Valentin routed Drury's Dmitry Lebedyev in a 6-1, 6-4 final.
The competition was closed out with a three set win for Drury, as Volckaert took down Ouachita's Ferran in a 6-3, 1-6, 10-3 final, capping off a 7-2 win for his team.
Ouachita falls to 1-2 in match play with the loss, while Drury improves to 5-0.
