BENTONVILLE, Ark.- The season came to a tough close for the Ouachita Lady Tiger tennis team on Friday, as they faced off with Southeastern Oklahoma State in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament. The Lady Tigers, who split the regular season series with Southeastern, fell by a score of 5-2 in the match.
Ouachita won two of the three doubles matches and looked to be in a position to win the match, but Southeastern swept the series of four singles matches and walked away victorious.
Ouachita's duo of Kourtney Chumbley and Valeriya Mansvetova defeated Southeastern's Sabina Mardenka and Andreea Goergescu by a score of 8-6 to kick off the match. Their win was followed by another Lady Tiger victory, this time by Kristin Bodine and Lilia Sokolova over Fabi Juarez and Cassandra Bratten, which came by a score of 9-8.
Southeastern's first win came in the finals doubles match, with Elba Haugen and Marina Dias downing Ouachita's McKenzie Cranford and Camila Ferriera by a score of 9-8.
In singles play, Southeastern's Mardenka defeated Mansvetova by a score of 6-4, 6-4, before Ouachita's Bodine fell to Juarez by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Play was rounded out by a win for Southeastern's Haugen, who defeated Ouachita's Samantha Street by a score of 6-1, 6-1 and a win for SOSU's Dias, over Ouachita's Cranford, by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
