Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Ouachita Tigers men's soccer team picked up their second shutout victory of the season on Thursday, defeating the Delta State Statesmen 2-0. The Tigers have won three, and tied one, of their last four matches.
The first half against Delta State was a defensive battle. Ouachita's
Kaleb Banning recorded the only shot for the Tigers, in the fifth minute. Delta State attempted six shots in the first half but did not register a goal.
Four minutes into the second half,
Brian Williams hit the post on Ouachita's first shot of the period. The shot sparked the Tigers' offense, and in the 55
th minute,
Dillon Farrell netted his second goal of the season to put the Tigers on top 1-0.
The Tigers added another goal, 16 minutes later, when
Tinashe Chigede put the ball in the back of the net using his head. The goal was Chigede's fourth of the season, and his third in the last three games. He received the ball from
Tyler Mouton, who recorded his third assist of the season.
With a two-goal lead the Tigers entered defensive mode, blocking three shots and saving one in the last 16 minutes of the match to clinch the 2-0 win.
The Tigers recorded 12 shots throughout the entire match, 11 coming in the second half. Delta State attempted 15 total shots but was only able to put two on target. Both shots on goal from the Statesmen were saved by
David Henley, who spent all 90 minutes at keeper for Ouachita.
The Tigers (4-5-1) will look to increase their undefeated streak to five games on Wednesday, Oct. 8, as Ouachita takes on Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
