Lady Tigers get 20 points from charity stripe in win

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Lady Tigers moved to 4-7 on the season after defeating the Blue Mountain College Lady Toppers 66-54 on Tuesday, behind 15 points and eight rebounds from sophomore Katie Kapler.
 
The Lady Tigers were able to control the game by limiting the Lady Toppers to a field-goal percentage of 34.9 percent and only 16.7 percent from three-point range. Ouachita posted a 40.8 percent field-goal percentage, including 35.3 percent from deep and 80 percent from the free-throw line.
 
The first half featured seven lead changes and four ties in the first nine minutes. Ouachita eventually claimed a comfortable lead however, behind a 13-0 run that put the Lady Tigers ahead 29-16 with 4:22 to go in the half.
 
The Lady Tigers went into halftime with a 33-24 lead, with their largest lead of 11 points coming earlier in the period. Kapler and Katherine West led all scorers with seven points each, and Kapler added five boards while West recorded three assists.
 
Ouachita maintained its lead throughout the second half, and at one point led by 15 points. With 8:44 left in the game, Blue Mountain College pulled within seven points, but Ouachita immediately answered with a 9-2 run to extend the lead to 14. After the run, the Lady Tigers held a double-digit lead until the final buzzer.
 
Kapler and Breanna Harris led the Lady Tigers in the second half with eight points each, while Kori Bullard added six.
 
For the game, Kapler lead everyone with 15 points and eight rebounds. Harris followed with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists, and Bullard added 12 points, six rebounds and two assists. West also scored in double-digits, scoring 10 points while posting four boards, three assists and two steals.
 
Ouachita's sunk 20 free-throws in the contest, the most for the Lady Tigers since Nov. 15 against Lincoln University.
 
The Lady Tigers (4-7, 0-4 GAC) will host Harding University on Saturday, Jan. 3, for their first game of 2015. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
