Box Score CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Ouachita men's soccer team came up one goal short to the Rogers State Hillcats on Sunday, losing 3-2.
The Tigers opened the scoring in just the sixth minute, when Ouachita's
Tinashe Chigede netted a pass from
Logan Hampton. The goal came on Ouachita's first shot of the match, and was Chigede's first of the season. The Hillcats answered just eight minutes later, however, on an equalizer from Dylan Beaird.
Despite both teams combing for six shots during the rest of the first half, the score remained 1-1 until the second half.
In the second half, Rogers State's offense came alive. The Hillcats scored in both the 65
th and 81
st minute to take a 3-1 lead.
Chigede and Hampton connected again in the 89
th minute to pull the Tigers within one goal. This time Hampton put the ball in the net, and Chigede, as well as
Ryan Trayner, recorded the assists. Ouachita could not tie the match in the minute of regular time left, however, and the Hillcats sealed the 3-2 victory.
The Tigers recorded nine shots for the match, five of them on goal. Trayner and
Tyler Mouton led Ouachita with three shots. Mouton, Chigede, Hampton and
Brian Williams each recorded a shot on goal.
David Henley spent all 90 minutes in goal for the Tigers, recording four saves.
The Tigers (1-4) will host their first home match of the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 18, as Ouachita takes on Mississippi College at 3 p.m.
