Tigers Fall 3-1 in Season Opener

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ouachita Baptist men's soccer team opened their regular season against the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Friday, in San Antonio, Texas. Despite a scoreless first half, the Tigers fell 3-1.
 
An early red card given to TAMIU's Oscar Pompa gave the Tigers an 11-10 man advantage, but the Dustdevils' defense allowed only two first-half shots. Ouachita's defense held in the first half, as well, allowing four shots.
 
Seven minutes into the second half, TAMIU's Ryan Hodgson netted the first goal of the match, and nearly twenty minutes later, the Dustdevils struck again on a goal from Tayeb Ahmadi. The Dustdevils added one more goal in the 86th minute on a penalty kick, to bring the score to 3-0.
 
After five second-half shots from the Tigers that did not register a goal, Ouachita's Taylor Goyen netted the first goal of the season for the Tigers, and the first goal of his career, on a penalty kick in the 89th minute. Shortly after, the match ended with TAMIU on top, 3-1.
 
Ouachita recorded seven total shots in the match, five of which were on goal. Sewell Yost led the Tigers with three shots and two shots on goal. Dillon Farrell, Ryan Trayner and Goyen each added on shot on goal, as well.
 
Senior David Henley spent all 90 minutes at keeper, recording three saves.
 
The Tigers (0-1) will stay in San Antonio to take on the St. Mary's University Rattlers on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
