Tigers tighten GAC race with shutout of SWOSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Ouachita's Miranda Hudleston and Haley Hatcher each scored goals in the 46th and 47th minutes of the second half to give the Ouachita Tigers women's soccer team a 2-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State at Kluck Field on Thursday. The win improved the Tigers to 7-2 in the Great American Conference standings.

Ouachita's offensive attack was relentless in both periods of play. The Tigers outshot the Bulldogs 10-3 in the first half and 13-7 in the second. Southwestern had an opportunity to go ahead early in the game, but an open shot by Cori Kelly hit off the crossbar.

Ouachita responded with an all-out attack on the Bulldog defense. Haley Hatcher fired off seven shots in the first half and Morgan Allen finished the half with two. Despite the offensive flurry, the Tigers and Bulldogs ended the half in a scoreless tie.

Entering the second half, Miranda Hudleston connected on a shot from the left side, a few yards outside the box, which found the top right corner of the net. It was Hudleston's second goal of the season.

One minute and half later, the Tigers were again on the offensive. This time, Alisa Trejo beat a defender in the box and crossed the ball through traffic to an open Haley Hatcher. Hatcher's shot went dead center to the top back of the SWOSU net for her 11th goal of the year. The score put the Tigers up 2-0.

Ouachita's back line of Tessa Woodcock, Sammie Mack, Kristen Schultz and Dina Harper disrupted the Southwestern offense for the remainder of the game, limiting them to only seven shots and not allowing the forwards to get behind them.

Lauren Llanes earned her fifth shutout of the season, picking up two saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Tigers will go for their fifth straight win on Saturday when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State. The match is set to start at 9:00 a.m.
