Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Despite shooting a season-low 21% from three-point range, the Ouachita Tigers shot 44% from the floor and a clutch 19-20 from the free-throw line to defeat Southern Nazarene 89-84 in overtime and clinch the Great American Conference regular season title outright. The win improved the Tigers to 19-4 overall and 15-3 in conference play.
Tirrell Brown led the Tigers in scoring with 28 points, shooting 11-14 from the floor and 6-6 from the free-throw line. He also added 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double.
David Berete scored a season-high 24 points in 40 minutes.
Colt Fason also had his second-straight double-double, scoring 11 points and ripping down a game-high 13 boards.
For the second straight game, The Tigers went into halftime trailing. Southern Nazarene held a 39-36 lead going into the second half. Neither could gain an advantage in a second half that saw 14 lead changes and seven ties. The largest lead for either team was four points. The biggest advantage for the Tigers came from its inside game with the Tigers scoring 50 of its 89 points in the paint, 26 of those coming the second half and overtime periods.
After two free throws from
Tirrell Brown tied the score 77-77, Southern Nazarene took the lead on a layup by LB Willis. Brown was called for a blocking foul that sent Willis to the line for three-point play opportunity with 23 seconds left. Willis missed the free throw and
Colt Fason secured the rebound. With eight seconds remaining, the Crimson Storm fouled
Micah Delph, sending him to the line to shoot a pair of free throws. Delph drained both to tie the game, 79-79. Southern Nazarene missed their next shot and the game went into overtime.
Ouachita's
Jordan Corbitt opened overtime with a three-point basket and Southern Nazarene responded with a three of their own. A layup by
David Berete put the Tigers up 85-82. Delph would sink four more free throws and the Tigers would prevail 89-84.
The win was the eighth straight for Ouachita. They will return home this Thursday, February 26, to Bill Vining Arena to take on the rival Reddies of Henderson State. The Tigers have won 13 straight home games. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
