SAN ANTONIO, Texas - A strong second half performance by the Ouachita Tigers men's soccer team was not enough to overcome an early deficit, as the Tigers fell to St. Mary's 2-0. The Tigers drop to 1-4 on the season.
The Rattlers of St. Mary's jumped out to an early lead, scoring their only two goals of the game in the first ten minutes of the first half. Tiger keeper
Nelson Pacheco fell victim to a difficult deflection off a Tiger defender that resulted in St. Mary's first score. They took a 2-0 lead on a shot outside the box that found the upper corner of the net.
Ouachita's defense settled in after that, stalling the Rattlers offensive attack. Pacheco stopped St. Mary's final three shots on goal in the first period.
Sewell Yost and
Tyler Mouton each accounted for the Tigers shots on goal in that period.
The Tigers outshot St. Mary's 8-7 in the second period, but were unable to push a ball into the opponent's net. Pacheco racked up two more saves in the second period, giving him five for the match.
Brandon Hom led the Tigers with four shots.
The Tigers continue their Texas road trip on Sunday, September 20 when they'll face St. Edwards in Austin. Match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
