Tigers fall 3-0 to Tech

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers lost their first conference match of the season on Thursday, falling 3-0 to the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns. Tech defeated the Tigers 28-26, 25-19 and 25-15.

In the first set, the Tigers jumped out to an early 7-4 lead and later held a 16-9 lead after a 9-2 run. Stephanie Pollnow and Kori Bullard led the charge, recording two kills each in the run. With Ouachita holding a 22-18 lead, the Golden Suns (9-5, 3-0 GAC) recorded five consecutive points to take a 23-22 lead. 

After three lead changes in the final 10 points, Kaci Jackson's kill won the set for Arkansas Tech, 28-26. The Golden Suns finished the set with a .184 attack percentage, while holding the Tigers to only .137. Ouachita did recorded fewer attack errors, however. 

Abby Pickett led all players after the first set with six kills, followed by Bullard with five. 

In the second set, neither team was able to hold a lead above five points. The set featured five ties, but Ouachita could never gain a lead. Arkansas Tech finished the set with a 4-1 run to take the set 25-19.

The Tigers were held to an attack percentage of only .139 in the set, compared to Tech's .273 attack percentage. 

In the third set, Tech recorded 18 kills and only five errors. Ouachita was held to only eight kills. The Suns had scoring runs of 4-0 and 5-0 in the set before eventually taking the match with a 25-15 win.

Arkansas Tech's Katie Huff finished with a match-high 13 kills, and Sarita Stegall led everyone with 41 assists.

Pollnow led the Tigers with 11 kills for the match, followed by Bullard and Pickett with eight each. Stormi Leonard recorded 31 assists, and Ashley Wake led with 13 digs. Bullard had a match-high five blocks.

The Tigers (7-4, 2-1 GAC) will travel to Searcy, Ark. on Tuesday, Sept. 29 to take on Harding University. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
