Tigers open season with pair of wins in Huntsville

Huntsville, Ala. – The Ouachita Tigers volleyball team open 2015 regular season play with a pair of wins over Trevecca Nazarene and Stillman College at the Hilton Garden Inn UAH Classic held at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday. The Tigers won both matches in straight sets to start their season 2-0. Ouachita will face William Jewel College and host Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday.

Ouachita dominated the net in their opening match against Trevecca Nazarene. The Tigers attacked with precision and power, leading to 41 kills to only 13 attack errors in the 3-0 win. Ouachita had a match high .364 attack percentage in set two, with 16 kills on 33 attacks. Senior Abby Pickett finished with 13 kills and a whopping .632 attack percentage. Kori Bullard followed with 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage.

Defensively, Ouachita finished the match with 10 blocks, led by Stormi Leonard with four and Bullard with three. Leonard also added 36 assists. Ashley Wake finished the match with 12 digs.

Ouachita won the match 25-15, 25-20, 25-19.

Ouachita continued to roll in their second match of the day, as they squared off against Stillman College. Ouachita dominated their opponent in every statistical category. As a team, they finished the match with a .344 attack percentage. The Tigers made 46 kills to Stillman's 12.

Stephanie Pollnow led the way in game two with 13 kills, two service aces and one block. Bullard had nine kills and two blocks. Pickett also added nine kills in the match.

Ouachita had three setters finish in double figures with assists. Anna LeTourneau led the way with 16, followed by Leonard with 12 and Kelsey Bradley with 12. LeTourneau also had three service aces.

Ashley Wake finished with 12 digs and tied LeTourneau for the team lead with three service aces. Jayme Shell had six digs and one block to go along with six kills.

The Tigers never trailed wining in straight sets, 25-7, 25-14, 25-12.
