ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite a season-high field-goal percentage, the Ouachita Lady Tigers dropped the first Battle of the Ravine game of the season at Henderson State on Monday night. The Lady Tigers converted on 52.8 percent of shots from the floor in the loss.
The Reddies (7-8, 6-3 GAC) took the first lead of the contest, but Ouachita took a 9-8 lead on a three-pointer by
Katie Kapler. The Lady Tigers then held the lead for the rest of the first quarter, clinging to an 18-17 lead.
An 11-2 run to in the second period, however, allowed Henderson to take a 30-22 lead with just under five minutes until halftime. The Reddies eventually took a double-digit lead and led 43-33 at the break. Dulincia Keener and Torrie Thompson led Henderson in the half with 12 points and 11 points, respectively, shooting a combined 9-12 from the floor. Ouachita (5-10, 2-7 GAC) netted 56 percent of its shots in the half, with Kapler scoring a team-high 11.
Henderson held its double-digit lead early in the third quarter until an 8-0 run for Ouachita pulled the Lady Tigers within seven. With 2:08 to go in the period,
Taylor Bowles sparked another run for Ouachita that decreased Henderson's lead to 58-54 with 1:20 until the fourth quarter. A last-second bucket by Henderson's Victoria Stewart allowed the Reddies to enter the final 10 minutes ahead 62-56.
The fourth quarter began with a 13-0 run for Henderson that allowed to Reddies to take a 75-56 lead with just 6:25 remaining. Ouachita pulled within 10 on a 9-0 run that featured seven points from
Breanna Harris, but the Reddies once again jumped out to a 15-point lead. Harris netted the final points of the contest with 1:08 to go, bringing the final score to 82-69.
Harris carried the bulk of the offense for Ouachita in the second half, scoring 19 points in 20 minutes on 8-11 shooting from the field. Ouachita posted a field-goal percentage of 50 percent in the half, but the Lady Tigers were just 2-9 from the tree-point line. Henderson was 56.7 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from deep.
For the game, Keener scored a game-high 26 points for the Reddies. Thompson added 17 on 5-7 shooting from three.
Harris scored a season-high 25 points for the Lady Tigers, followed by Kapler with 17 and Bowles with 10.
Kori Bullard had six points for Ouachita and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
Henderson forced 15 Ouachita turnovers in the game and scored 11 more points off turnovers than the Lady Tigers. The Reddies also added 14 more second-chance points.
The Lady Tigers will remain on the road for a Thursday-night matchup against the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Jan. 21. The game in Monticello, Ark. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
