Tigers fall to Bison in five sets

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers volleyball team lost a hard-fought five set match with conference foe Oklahoma Baptist Thursday night, 3-2 (25-14, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 13-15). The Tigers drop to 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the GAC. Tabatha Huckabee led the Tigers with 19 kills, while libero Ashley Wake notched a season-high 32 digs. Stormi Leonard recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 51 assists and 14 digs. 

Ouachita came out hot in the opening set, The Tigers hit .300 as a tem behind four kills each from Jayme Shell and Tabatha Huckabee. The Tigers front line forced eight Bison attack errors in the first set, four coming off blocks. Kori Bullard recorded two of her team-high six blocks in the opening set. 

Oklahoma Baptist took a 21-16 lead in set two, thanks to a 7-1 run by the Bison. They would win the set 25-20. Ouachita reclaimed the lead in the match in set three. Bullard led the Tigers with six kills in the set, including the final three for the Tigers to give them the 2-1 lead in the match.

After the Bison took set four, they held an early 4-2 lead in the fifth and final set. Back-to-back kills by Ashlie Dintleman gave Ouachita a 5-6 lead. Dintleman would add obne more to make in an 8-6 lead for Ouachita at the switch. A 6-0 run by Oklahoma Baptist gave them a 12-8 lead and forced the Tigers to use their two time outs. Trailing 13-9, Ouachita went on a 4-1 run to cut the Bison lead to one, trailing 13-14. Oklahoma Baptist would win the next point to take the set 15-13.

Ouachita will return to action on Friday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers will host Southern Nazarene University.
