ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Lady Tigers were defeated by Southwest Baptist on Saturday night by a final of 73-64.
Madison Brittain led Ouachita with 20 points, making for four of nine three-point attempts.
Alivia Huell added eight points and five steals, while
Morgan Miller scored 11.
Ouachita jumped out to a 22-15 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Tigers closed out the quarter with an 8-2 run, six of those points scored by Madison Brittain. Southwest Baptist opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 22-22. A three-pointer gave Southwest Baptist the lead and they would hold that lead for the remainder of the quarter. Entering halftime, the Lady Tigers trailed by only three, 37-34.
Morgan Miller opened the third quarter with a steal and layup to cut the deficit to one. Brittain followed up with a three to put the Lady Tigers up 39-37. There would be 10 lead changes in the third quarter with both teams exchanging shots. By the end, the Lady Tigers held a two-point advantage after
Taylor Bowles drained a three.
The fourth quarter began with the Lady Tigers leading 53-51. Two threes from Southwest Baptist would allow them to retake the lead. A layup by
Katie Kapler with just over four minutes remaining would close the gap by two, but Southwest Baptist answered to extend their lead by as many as nine. They would hold on for the 73-64 win.
The Lady Tigers return to Bill Vining Arena on Thursday, Nov. 17. They host Oklahoma Baptist to open conference play.
