ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Lady Tigers led wire-to-wire Thursday night, winning their conference opener 56-42 over Oklahoma Baptist.
Madison Brittain led the way offensively with 14 points while
Katie Kapler pulled off the double-double with 13 pints and 12 rebounds. Defensively,
Bria Caldwell and Alivia Huell each had four steals in the win. The Lady Tigers improved to 1-2 on the season with the win.
Ouachita outscored Oklahoma Baptist in all bu the third quarter. They held the Lady Bison to 13 first half points. Huell was the leading scorer for Ouachita in the first half, netting eight points on 3-7 shooting, including one from long range. Kapler had eight rebounds int he first half, six coming on defense. Teh Lady Tigers out rebounded the Lady Bison 21-15 in the first two quarters of play. Ouachita led 15-5 at the end of the first quarter and led by as many as 15 in the second quarter.
The Lady Bison were trailing by 19 with 4:51 remaining in the third quarter when they went on a 14-5 run to close it out trailing by 10. Down 43-33, Oklahoma Baptist got to within eight with four minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Tigers responded with six straight points in the paint, coming from Brittain, Kapler and
Morgan Miller. Ouachita would hang on for the 14-point victory, wining by a final of 56-42.
The Lady Tigers return to GAC action on Saturday when they host Southern Nazarene. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
