Tigers come up short versus Tech

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers softball team completed a four-game series versus Arkansas Tech on Saturday. The Tigers dropped both games of the double header, evening their record to 6-6 on the season.  Alex Jennings went 4-7 on the day to lead the Tigers in hits and average.

In Saturday's opener, the Golden Suns broke a scoreless tie open in the top of the third with a five-run inning. The Tigers responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Kailey Madden doubled to left center to score Sarah Johnson, who singled earlier in the inning.

Macy Nantz entered in relief in the top of third and pitched a scoreless fourth inning. Arkansas Tech added two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 7-1 lead. Nantz doubled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and scored on a single to left center by Kate Lacina. Tech would score three more in the top of seventh and close out the Tigers in the bottom of the inning to take the first game, 10-2. Alex Jennings went 3-4 in the game with a double.

Marissa Butler got the start in game two. She scattered 11 hits over seven innings, striking out five batters and walking three. The Golden Suns took a 1-0 lead on a one-out single through the left side of the infield. A solo homerun in the top of the third made it a 2-0 game.

After falling behind 4-1 in the top of the fourth, the Tigers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run. Sarah Johnson scored her second run of the day on a single to center by KJ Keeley. The pitchers from both sides took over the remainder of the game. Butler allowed only one hit in the final three innings, but the Tigers were unable to get the offense going late. They would fall in the series finale, 4-1.

The Tigers continue conference play on Feb. 26 when they open a four-game series at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
