ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -
Kelly Powell went 3-4 with two runs scored and
Macy Nantz struck out five in seven innings to pace Ouachita (3-1) to a 4-2 win over Northeastern State University.
Both teams scored a run in their half of the first inning. Powell got the Tigers on the scoreboard, scoring on a single by
Sarah Johnson to make it a 1-1 game.
Powell drove in the Tigers second run in the bottom of the fifth. After a lead-off double by
Suzie Gresham, Powell singled to bring Gresham home. Powell scored the Tigers third run on a
Kailey Madden single. Madden scored after an error in the Northeastern outfield on a deep ball hit by Johnson. The Tigers scored all three runs in the fifth with no outs to take a 4-1 lead.
Nantz would take of the rest, allowing Northeastern to only add on an unearned run in the top of the seventh. Nantz scattered seven hits over seven innings. She walked only two en route to her second win of the season. In two starts, Nantz has 17 strikeouts.
The 4-2 win for the Tigers was their third straight of the season.
